Akvarie

About

Akvarie is simple artificial life model, with asexually reproducing artificial swimmers controlled by genetically determined machine code.

Backstory

This was one of my early artificial life projects. I found it very interesting that adaptive behaviour could emerge in a computer model. I built a simple world engine where agents that could swim could evolve. I built a machine-code based control system, with the intention of investigating evolved programs if interesting behaviour emerged within the model.

Features

  • Artificial swimming organisms with genetically determined colour, size and behaviour
  • Machine code generation based on genetic material
  • Rudimentary vision for swimmers
  • Fast, but imprecise bounding box-based physics
  • Static world tiles, with random map generation

Last time actively developed

2008

System requirements

  • Windows
    • Microsoft Windows XP
  • Ubuntu
    • Works in Wine 3.0
